Newest Mega Snoopers Are out-smarting the Boffins

Filed under: Uncategorized — teddytowncrier @ 4:56 pm
Snoopers are everywhere. … Many of us safeguard our credit cards & other electronically readable items with a special wallet but i may not be enought.
The referenced article indicates it may not be sufficient & be time for “Plan B”.
My own current precautions are:
A. … Any on line financials are done via “Hard wired”  connections.  …. Never over Wi-Fi.
B. … Do not use ‘Tap only” cards for purchases.
C. … Use a 2nd bank account for paying bills.
D. … Only pre-paid cards are used for on-line purchases.

I always say “Yes”!

Filed under: Uncategorized — teddytowncrier @ 5:37 pm

Ask me to lend you $100 ’til payday and I’ll say “Yes”!

Ask me if I know where you can get a million dollars & will gladly say “Yes”!

THE EXCEPTION: When a stranger calls me on the phone and asks if I can hear them. … My answer is NOT “YES”. … The only answer should be IMMEDIATELY HANG UP or let your generic Voice-Mail take your calls.

It’s an automatic reaction to answer “Yes” to a simple question like “Can you hear me”? However: There are demons lurking; Your voice may be recorded, run through an algorithm and your “yes” can be part of a legally binding contract.

Scenario No. 2. … Your conversation is again recorded and run through a process ready to attach to a carefully prepared script which is then “boiler roomed” to every one of your contacts. …. The recipients will listen to this call because they’re familiar with your voice and happily wait for “A Director” to come on the line. …. The trap is now sprung.

Discover how the ‘Can you hear me?’ phone scam works:  Click Here.

And it’s not just your voice being spoofed. … They’re switching faces on porn videos and you (Or loved ones) can be awakened by a phone call that informs you that you now are a star and there may be nothing that you can do about it.  Info here.

You may be a Porn Star without even knowing.

Caution Indelicate Content.

At first glance: I didn’t give a Tinker’s if someone grabbed my image, ran it through an A. I (Artificial Intelligence) algorithm, stuck this visage on a movie and made me an Internet Star but on further reflection it could be really sticky if there were children involved in this dubious, unauthorized creativity.

Kiddy Porn seems to be a huge business and we’re increasingly, seeing reports where police forces have collaborated across multiple continents and are collaring pervs with thousands of images in their possession. …. There is a demand for kiddie pics as well as boys and girls of all ages.

Whether from mischief, lover’s revenge, profit or other nefarious uses; Innocent lives are going to be devastated from this improper use of this technology.

You’re aware that when we OK providor’s terms of service; We may have given said providor exclusive rights in perpetuity, to all content that we post.

Need a hair raising yarn? … Read your favourite Social Media’s terms of service. … It doesn’t take a Ph D in rocket science to realize that you have given your permission for those comments and pictures that you proudly and lovingly share, could be sold (Over & over again) to anyone with an untraceable, Pre-Paid credit card.

Not wishing to lay all the blame at the feet of Social Media; There are “Scrapers” that can crawl the web and make face replacement a piece of cake.

One small defense for us; Would be to use an image editor and add noticeable, identifying text to the image before sharing. …. One of my favourite image editors is IrfanView. … Its easy to use & you’ll be able to add text and identify where you posted the image.

I don’t have more of an answer for you. … If you do: Your input is welcomed.

YOU STINK! … Don’t knock it. Data from human gasses can be valuable.

Filed under: Uncategorized — teddytowncrier @ 2:45 pm

OK! Just what I needed to know today but concepts in the referenced article are no surprise since our wallet can be ‘sniffed’ to determine if our Transit Pass is up to date.

Can we expect those ‘Security Pillars” that stores are using to ‘sniff out’ shoplifters as they exit the store. Will they be ‘enhanced’ & our ‘gas envelope’ similarly sniffed and the data sold interested parties.

I expect to be assured that its ‘Meta data’ being collected without any identifying information.

Can we now talk about that bridge?

Your vehicles’ electronic systems can kill.

Filed under: Uncategorized — teddytowncrier @ 1:27 pm

Dateline: Toronto, Canada.

We sadly lost another Angel.

Camila Torcato

An unoccupied vehicle moved and killed this precious soul.  … At time of writing: Cause of the movement had not been established.

Today’s cars are loaded with sensors, some of which control the transmission. … Do some research and we discover that these sensors and other electronic controls are not foolproof and do malfunction, often at inconvenient (and dangerous) times.

When your vehicle is unattended: The engine must be off, Transmission selector in “Park” position and the brake applied.

First Hand Report: … I’m aware of these dangers from unattended vehicles, having had a vehicle ‘run away’.  …  Our home was poorly positioned on the residential street and had a steep driveway.

As a contractor with several vehicles; Safety was uppermost in my mind, at all times and parking instructions were clear. … Engine Off, Transmission in ‘Park’, key removed,  Brake on, a blocking brick under the rear wheel and the vehicle locked. (Sounds like a control freak but the down side was too big).

Arriving home one evening to discover the children had been in the unlocked car and had moved the drive selector. … The vehicle had careened across the street and killed a neighbours tree.

We were fortunate. … The angels were still with me.

A bouquet & A suggestion for Rogers.

Filed under: Uncategorized — teddytowncrier @ 1:11 pm

I’d like to be clear that my interactions with Rogers’ reps have generally been satisfactory whether in person, online or via the telephone. The sole exception being their Queensway, Etobicoke office where they wanted to see my driver’s licence before talking to me.

Rogers gets a lot of ‘stick’ but I’m fairly well satisfied with what they provide for me, even thought it does grate a bit when I’ve been a client for over ten years and they’re offering new clients a far better deal than I have. … Maybe it is time to take a closer look at other offers.

A few years ago; I’d wandered into Rogers’ 1030 Adelaide St, London store where manager Matt took a look at my account, made a few adjustments and made me a happy camper.

Another important plus was that I now had a “Goto” person and didn’t have to wait interminably, on the phone, for a Customer Rep.

Fast forward a couple of years and noticing main line suppliers, including Rogers, were scrambling to challenge Freedom Mobile’s latest offer. …. I already have goto contacts and a sweet mobile deal with Freedom. It was time to have a chat with Matt and re-align not only, my account but also, those of a few friends & clients.

A snowy slushy day in January, 2018 and I’d dropped in to have a chat with Matt and expected the store to be busy on account of the recent, seemingly sweet deals they were offering. … I was prepared to wait.

Customer Care Rep Curtis was just finishing up with a client and I took the opportunity to mention that I was looking for Matt. … Here’s Curtis’ reply that he tossed over his shoulder, before I had finished and as he scurried away: …

Our hero, Curtis, didn’t have a clue whom he was addressing and my innocuous enquiry seemed to be a developing inconvenience for him.

Here’s your clue, Curtis: … Times are a-changing. … “Cutting the cord” is on almost, everyone’ lips. … Many of us are vaguely aware of the 1,500 channel universe and the term “Kodi” is arousing more interest with each passing day. … I never had “The Cord” and my 22 broadcast channels come over the air (OTA) via a premium antenna.

Let’s look at the telephone side of your employer’s business. for a moment: …. I have 10 phone lines. … Some Canadian, some US and a couple of European providors. … Most of them are freebies and those that I choose to pay for are cellular lines which cost me $7/Mth and $25/Annually, respectively. … These two are from household names that almost everyone would recognize. … Would you concede that I may know a bit about VOIP & Cellular telephony and where the best bang for the buck is? …. (Bring me your phone & $100 and I’ll give you free US & Canada cell service and toss in free texting).

Major consideration No.3: … I’m the (Unpaid) goto tech guy for a couple of dozen friends and the tech guy for a dozen or so business folks.

How much would losing a couple of dozen accounts cost his employer over the next 10 years and how would said employer feel about unnecessarily, losing half a million dollars in revenue?

So here we are today: … Ted is wondering how someone who could use more training in customer care is allowed to interact with customers? … If I were a vindictive person and Curtis’ shabby treatment motivated me to “Not get mad, Get even”: Maybe returning to the store, handing out a pamplet & and telling everyone in the line that I’m getting cell & TV for free & they can too, would give me a chuckle.

Maybe I’ll return to their parking lot and plaster every car with my promo. (Or should I wait ’till Saturday morning and give everybody in their store a brochure)?

Super Service in London Ontario.

Filed under: Uncategorized — teddytowncrier @ 6:22 pm

I’m always happy to give a fellow traveler a leg up.

So many others have greased life rails for me so an opportunity to help someone along is always a privilege.

Have been a smoker since Moses was in short pants and one of my life’s joys is a ciggy “after” and with my morning coffee & newspaper while awakening on the deck.

Several smoking cessation techniques have been utilized with varying degrees of temporary success including:

Hypnotism. … (Twice successful).

Countdown I. … I did the math before retiring and transferred the schedule to paper ready for next day. …

Countdown II. … Wrote a computer program and pushed a button to print out the day’s schedule.

Countdown III. … Purchased a $5.00 app which kept track each day and beeped when I’m permitted a smoke.

Stretching spacing a few minutes each day wasn’t too big a burden but when the spacing started getting around 1 plus hours, this strategy demanded serious commitment.

Plan B. Became “Vaping” which involves using a mini, cigar shaped, boiler and turning flavoured liquid into steam and for me; Does provide some oral satisfaction derived from the steam sensation and the habitual act of frequently, putting something into my mouth.

I have a couple of suppliers for my vaping needs. … One in Dixie Value Mall Flea Market basement.

The other is https://itsnotsmoke.ca/ 1700 Dundas St London, ON (N. side of Dundas, just W. of 3rd St).

Visiting Itsnotsmoke was always an experience. … In the early days; we were greeted by a grandma who really knew her stuff and always turned a $10 deal into a unique spectacular.

More recently; I’ve noticed that Lars seems to have re-read his marketing 101 books and the streamlining is noticeable and yet; still welcoming.

This time it was Jeff at my service. … All i needed was a replacement mouthpiece which he had installed before I turned around AAAAAAAAAAAAND; … Jeff had topped me up and polished my vaper. …. For free, yet.

Oh Ya!. … Granny soon arrived and started castigating me for neglecting her. … (Hell! Darlin’ I’m 2.5 hrs away. … I don’t love ya’ that much).

Bottom line here is; When you or loved ones are wishing something could be done about their smoking. … Itsnotsmoke comes highly recommended.

A comment is required. … (or else)

He knew how to make lemonade and Princess Di came calling.

Filed under: Uncategorized — teddytowncrier @ 8:27 am

Forget taking marketing 101 and instead; Google for “Honest Ed” + “Canada” and then read everything you can about him.

Ed’s store had the cleanest sidewalk on the block because in the old days; His wife used cleaning the sidewalk as an excuse for keeping an eye out for creditors….. He expanded his store to encompass the whole block and turned the neighbouring streets into artisan galleries. … (AKA Mirvish Village).

Deep discount all the way ….. No high traffic locations with ample parking for Ed ….. He opened his restaurant in the freight yards ….. Limited menu … Just beef + 2 veg served on all 3 floors of the warehouse and you had to line up to get in. Single selection for desert … Pie & ice cream.

He did the same with 2 more 3 floor warehouses beside the tracks (One chicken only; The other fish only).

Even though he’s passed on ….. They still give away thousands of turkeys at Christmas …. That’s CRM Canadian style.

Enough from me ….. Do your own Google and you’re on the way to your very own world’s best, Phd in marketing.

God Bless you Ed. … You were a blessing for Canada an inspiration to all Canadians.

First thing tomorrow …. I really must get someone to re-install the “T” on the sign.

Prevent Chat from stealing your life.

Filed under: Uncategorized — teddytowncrier @ 2:41 pm

Keeping my door fully open with a Contact Portal allows my friends, neighbours, customers, creditors, ex wives, current lovers, politicians & scam artist to easily reach out and contact me.

From this portal; visitors can use eMail, Telephone, Chat, voice or video chat on the many platforms available to us and if I am asleep can easily leave me a note and I’ll give them my full attention as soon as am able,

Although this Contact Portal is simple, speedy and effective. … There’s an unavoidable time-gobbler built in.

When text chatting; I usually wait when I notice someone with whom I’m chatting is writing but the wait often seems an eternity and seems to gobble up my time waiting for them to finish.

I try to avoid inflicting the same pain as they watch and wait while I’m typing my reply.  … I use a simple strategy of composing outside our chat screen.

When my reply is likely to be a couple of sentences; I’ll frequently compose it in Notepad or similar and paste in the chat when finished.

This way I’m avoiding making the recipient watch and wait until I’ve finished my two finger exercise of writing my piece.

When I hit the “Send” Button”; “The Bell” alerts the recipient that there’s a nugget of life changing importance awaiting them.

Composing off line cuts out the time gobbling, watching and waiting for me to finish. … (and vice-versa).
