If this is failure; I want some.

A subscriber in another forum asked “…. How can I tell if I am an Entrepreneur – any more or was I ever one?”

Another subscriber proffered this definition of an Entrepreneur. ….

“If you are working for yourself and you are making money at it, you are an entrepreneur.

If you are working for yourself and you are not making money at it, you are a failed entrepreneur”.


Having encountered a few potholes along the road …. Here’s my perspective.

Failure is a word I’m not familiar with and need a little help with clarification of the word “Failed”.

Is it the guy living under a park bench like this one Frank O’Dea.

Or …. The high profile Jewish Hotelier who found himself on financial quicksand and reached into the deserts of N. Africa and find an Arabian Prince to ease his financial burden. Isadore Sharp… Would his congregation regard him as a failure?

Is it Max Ward who started business as a bush pilot and subsequently took on the major carriers to become an acclaimed international airline. The Wardair brand is now gone. Did Max fail?

Would established airlines such as Eastern or Pan-Am who created a fine living for tens of thousands families and are now longer with us. Must we regard them as failed?

Is it Tony who started off painting houses for a living and rose to become a major industrial painter employing thousands but chose to reclaim his sanity and is now back to painting houses. … Is Tony a failure?

Is it the high profile developer whose cash flow was decimated and had to seek bankruptcy protection as the multinationals fled whole floors of his developments during a downturn?

Should we call Sir Freddy Laker failed? … Laker Skytrain was the first $150 “Transatlantic Bus service” and started the trend towards affordable air travel.

J. K. Rowling was a writer in the UK and when penning Harry Potter in the local cafe was certainly not making any money at it. … Is she a failure?

I like Frank O’Dea’s strategy “Hope+Vision+Action”.

IMHO … Failure is a curable, temporary condition of the mind and certainly not an outcome.
