Making lemonade from a casual forum comment.

Filed under: Uncategorized — teddytowncrier @ 8:50 pm

There’s always an opportunity to make lemonade with the hidden opportunities we’re given when life seems to be handing us lemons.

Recently I encountered a post in another forum and replied with a few insights of my own and the moderator soon jumped in and posted the URL of one of my products.  (Thanks Paul. I appreciate the mention).

I have a couple of movies with the same content and would have preferred the URL in my profile to be used.

Since the forum has close to 10,000 members there was a chance that the video would enjoy a few views so I needed to maximize the exposure by hot-linking to other ideas and resources from within the video.  A task which took me most of the day since a script and voice overview were necessary.

BOTTOM LINE …. I now have links to supplemental ideas and products from within the video Paul mentioned. …… This also necessitated that the linked to videos were polished up with working links and effective calls to action. …. It was quite an intense day’s work.

HERE”S AN EXAMPLE …. Let’s use Suzy’s Pet Store as an example of how this strategy could work for her..

Suzy promotes her On-Line video on “How to groom your kitty for peak health and more love.”

At appropriate places within the video are links to other products that Suzy sells.

a. Allergy free kitty litter.

b. Flea repelling kitty bed.

c. $5.00 Video … “How to train kitty to poo in her box”.

d. $5.00 Video …. “How to have kitty love the leash and want to go on walks”.

e. $5.00 ebook …. “Keep kitty in peak health with what’s already in your kitchen”

Get the idea?

Tecniques are developing that let us embed supplemental ideas and offers within our videos.

When someone is viewing your video. …. That’s someone “already in the store” who is interested in what you have. … Take the trouble to explore this powerful, exciting, merchandising opportunity to showcase more of your products and services. …. It’s time for Lights – Camera – Action!

Here’s the URL that started all this fuss …. View Here

Video is cheap and effective for telling your story …. It’s interactive video that brings home more of the bacon.

WARNING …. If you don’t bother to explore the idea of embedded video within videos from a “How can I ” viewpoint. …. There’s good chance you could wake up to discover your competitor is telling his story so often and so well that he’s sucking your business dry.

WHAT MAKES PEOPLE BUY? Are 27 contacts necessary to make the sale?

Filed under: Uncategorized — teddytowncrier @ 4:05 pm
Tags: , ,

The following was written by one Thomas Smith in London back in 1885:

1. The first time a man looks at an ad, he doesn’t see it.
2. The second time, he doesn’t notice it.
3. The third time, he is conscious of its existence.
4. The fourth time, he faintly remembers having seen it.
5. The fifth time, he reads the ad.
6. The sixth time, he turns up his nose at it.
7. The seventh time, he reads it through and says, “Oh brother!”
8. The eighth time, he says, “Here’s that confounded thing again!”
9. The ninth time, he wonders if it amounts to anything.
10. The tenth time, he will ask his neighbor if he has tried it.
11. The eleventh time, he wonders how the advertiser makes it pay.
12. The twelfth time, he thinks it must be a good thing.
13. The thirteenth time, he thinks it might be worth something.
14. The fourteenth time, he remembers that he wanted such a thing for a long time.
15. The fifteenth time, he is tantalized because he cannot afford to buy it.
16. The sixteenth time, he thinks he will buy it someday.
17. The seventeenth time, he makes a memorandum of it.
18. The eighteenth time, he swears at his poverty.
19. The nineteenth time, he counts his money carefully.
20. The twentieth time he sees the ad, he buys the article or instructs his wife to do so.

The sad fact:is; Most business’ are under the false impression that the sale is either made or lost the first time the visitor comes to their web site. Additionally they think if they are only selling one product there is no reason for repeat visitors because they have no additional products to sell.

Whenever someone expresses this faulted thinking to me — and, much to my chagrin many people have — I know immediately that I am talking to a some-one who desperately needs the basics of marketing 101 and who’s business is likely to shrivel rather than grow.

Often, your visitor intends to return for a closer look but gets sidetracked. A reminder is often appreciated.

Every seasoned marketer knows that very few people buy on first exposure. The key to making sales from advertising is REPETITION – REPETITION – REPETITION. The overwhelming majority of customers need to be exposed to an offer three or more times before actually making the purchase.

The amazing thing is that Thomas Long knew this way back in 1885. This is not a new concept. And the way people go through the buying process over a Century later is exactly the same. I’m constantly amazed how people running businesses in the new era still “don’t get it?” I suspect the answer is that they’re aware of technology but are scared to make the small stretch and learn how to use it to leverage their time, market their business and sell products.

If customers are not reminded about your business three or more times then you’ve poured your advertising dollars down the drain and are losing sales. Period. No one can argue against this point. Every marketing textbook in existence teaches you this early in the course.

But, don’t despair. It’s easy to expose your offer multiple times. Lasermail (sm) continually keeps your offer front and center with a single click.

There is no simpler more effective way to acquire and retain customers and increase overall revenue than to use a system for keeping in touch and contstantly building relationships.

The good news is that we have made it extremely affordable for small businesses to start benefiting immediately from the marketing power of Lasermail and no technical skills are required.

Take a moment, right now and find out if Towncrier’s Lasermail could turn your contacts into a money machine.

Are you working at your job or on the railroad?

Filed under: Uncategorized — teddytowncrier @ 12:43 pm

Tom was enjoying his lunch in The Railroad’s executive’s dining car as a bunch of track workers shuffled by.

He quickly jumped to his feet, slid up the window and yelled “Joe is that you”?.

After a few moments small talk Joe was in the executive dining car enjoying Milwaukee’s finest libation as they caught up on old times.

When Joe eventually returned to his crew; The other lads were soon inquiring who the big shot in the private car was and Joe revealed that they both had started at the railroad on the same day and they soon asked “Why wasn’t it Joe dining in the executive car?”

Joe’s answer was simple …. “I started working at my job. ….. Tom worked on the railroad”.

Are you working at your job or on the railroad?

Is Social Networking Just a Never Ending Ball of String?

Filed under: Uncategorized — teddytowncrier @ 10:40 pm

An acquaintance recently posed the question …. “Is Social Networking Just a Never Ending Ball of String?”

At first my reaction was “How sad that’s your perspective” but after a few seconds thought I had to agree that may be true.

Leaving the web aside for a moment …. The same can be said of our lives which often are an entwined tapestry of family, parents, in-laws, siblings, Co-workers, church, casual acquaintances, service clubs and casual contacts each of which make some contribution to the masterpiece of who we are.

In fact ….. We are the product of our environment which includes the people around us.

I’m glad that social networking is a never ending ball of string.

I can haul out this ball of string and quickly discover how to cook a chicken, chase down a malfunction on my car or bring a dead computer to life and this ball of string always delivers.

It helps my quest enormously if I have a few threads in the ball; Usually by publishing articles, coming to someone’s assistance when they send a cry for help or simply supporting them with a sincere “Well done” when the opportunity arises.

We may not use many of the threads in the ball but may selectively pull out the threads we need, combine them with other threads and create something incredibly powerful or breathtakingly beautiful.

Weave enough threads together and we have a hawser to haul a drilling rig into place or haul a stranded liner of a sand bar and save hundreds of lives.

Others may select different threads from the ball and create a breathtaking gown for a Hilton.

My dream is to use this ball to locate the needed threads for assembling the team necessary to broadcast the inaugural service for a new church. … (Answered a request for this a few years ago. I knew she had read my answer to her call but. I didn’t have the courtesy of a reply).

I’m glad that I’ve discovered this ball of string that we call “Social Networking”.     It has tremendous positive impact on my life.   Add your comment and tell us how this ball has worked for you.

My grateful thanks to Paula Quick for sparking this idea.

Five simple steps to creating your own Animated Avatar.

This technique for creating animated avatars or animated gifs is so simple you won’t be needing the next door neighbor’s nephew and feeding him till he’s eaten you out of house and home.

1. Use your favourite video creator to create a clip of about 3 seconds long and save as a movie .   (I Usually use Windows MovieMaker and save as a .wmv).   Make a note of where you’ve saved the movie.

2.  Now head over to http://www.gifninja.com and select “Convert video to Gif” and left click.   GifNinja will convert wmv, asf, avi, mpg, mpeg, mov, 3gp, flv, and mp4 formats.

3.  Next: You’ll be asked for the name of the movie to be converted and you’ll use the browse feature to locate your saved masterpiece. Select when you’ve located it.

4.  Click the big green MAKE MY GIF button & have a cuppa while your masterpiece is being converted.

5.  Right click on the new animated delight and select “Save Image As”.   (Again; Remember where you have saved because Twitter will be asking you for this gem).

Now …. All you have to do is upload your masterpiece and Wow us with your creativity.   (Max size 700k).

Please don’t ask me to show you how to create an interactive movie in five easy steps.   My first stumbling steps. …. View Here.

Using Twitter for local marketing.

Even skilled and otherwise savvy Web Practitioners don’t “Get” Twitter for marketing and there’s currently a lively debate in another forum about the value of Twitter in local marketing.

Twitter is frequently viewed as another globespanning garden fence or water cooler whose only practical use if for comparing recipes and last night’s game.

Twitter is the world’s biggest Cafe where you can quickly find a table discussing exactly your interest whether it’s knitting winter coats for 3 legged poodles or childbirth under water.   … and .. Isn’t that exactly what you’re looking for?

So let’s look at what Twitter really can do for the merchant who wishes to market his business, locally.

The 1,000lb Gorilla is not in this room.   With Twitter; There aren’t any concerns about CanSpam compliance.   Or;   Someone who has forgotten they’ve subscribed and won’t click the unsubscribe link, call your Hosting Supplier and have him pull the plug on you.  Twitter is short, sweet and simple!

Where else can you insert your hot offer (Or other message). and instantly send it (Called a Tweet). to thousands of folks who have said they want to know more about you and then; Have a percentage of them forward it to a couple of thousand colleagues and associates in their FriendForce.  Just do the math.

That’s viral marketing on steroids supercharged with a couple of dozen Titan Rockets and it’s “Hands Off”.

You’ve probably heard of major intersections and shopping malls “Swarmed” from a single SMS messaging click. ….. Twitter reaches those who aren’t SMS enabled.    (If you’re thinking of “Swarming” a mall. …. Please don’t say you heard it here).

Now I fully understand that a hot offer on laundry detergent from Joe’s Value Mart in Toledo won’t have much appeal to a Twitter in Tokyo.     However;   Since Joe’s Twitter promotion is probably limited to current circulars. local ads, on his vehicles, cash register receipts and in his store. …. The Tokyo fella won’t even know Joe exists and certainly won’t be following Joe on Twitter.

For his Tweet;   Ideally; Joe should have a landing page that lists his other hot offers, recipes, tips etc and certainly a process for readers to tell all their friends about Joe’s Twitter and nudge them to follow Joe.   (Maybe even offer an incentive or coupon to nudge the process along).

Although a landing page with a video welcome, eye catching graphics and background music is very effective in engaging the reader and has a tremendous impact. ….. Joe doesn’t really need a landing page. … A few sizzling offers in his tweet is often enough to create buzz and bring in customers.

BLATANT PLUG … Turning one contact into 5 more is my specialty.  More …

There are currently thousands of Realtors and Financial Consultants who are now wishing they had employed some mechanism for nourishing relationships with clients.  Fielding panic calls and patching the patches in the dyke is not fun neither is it necessary where today’s cheap technology has been pro-actively used to build trust and confidence during the good times.

Twitter is another of those Great Democratizers that lets the little guy turn on a dime, take on the Goliaths and WIN.

If you see a nugget of possibility here but not sure how you can enroll these powerful yet simple weapons into your marketing army. …… I’d be glad to give you a no fee, no obligation, ten minute consultation. …. Contact me from the link below and let’s find a way for you to eat your competitors’ lunch, hang on to your market share and stop all customer migration dead in it’s tracks.

Special thanks to Lindy Asimus and Cheryl Cigan for their valuable input.
