Fortunately I landed in a forum discussing the topic and discovered that many cell phones have the same locking feature to prevent unauthorized use and many owners were in a similar panic.
The Solution. In my case; The solution I discovered to unlock the phone was to enter the last four numbers of my cell phone number.
